Bandon travelled to Ballincollig knowing that a win would secure 3rd place in the League. Bandon started very brightly with Lisa Crowley & Katie O’Driscoll putting Ballincollig under all kinds of pressure. Their hard work paid off when midfielder Eileen Lordans’ shot was saved but the keeper couldn’t hold it and Katie was on hand to finish the ball to the net. Bandons midfield of Eileen Lordan, Rachel O’Neill & Mel Fitzgerald were well on top and putting some great ball into their strikers. Ballincollig came out in the 2nd half with all guns blazing. They were breaking from midfield but the Bandon defence of Chloe Lynch, Niamh Hill, Shauna Rafferty & Sarah Crowley stood up well to the pressure. Bandon broke once more when Rachel O’Neill played a great ball to Katie O’Driscoll who played the ball to the feet of her striking partner, Lisa Crowley, and still with a lot to do she finished excellently to make it 2 - 0. Ballincolligs pressure resulted in, what seemed to the Bandon line, a very dubious penalty. Aine O’Donovan stood tall in her goal and made an absolutely brilliant save. Bandon made 2 substitutions with Avie O’Sullivan replacing Sarah Crowley and Sammy Jo Ho coming on up front in place of Lisa Crowley. These girls settled well and played well. Bandons 3rd came from a throw on the right side of the pitch. Eileen Lordan took the ball into the Ballincollig box, where the Ballincollig keeper saved but dropped the ball, Mel Fitzgerald, who was following in, picked up the loose ball and made no mistake in hitting the back of the net, to score her 1st goal for Bandon. Trina O’Sullivan came on up front for Katie O’Driscoll and helped to keep the defence under pressure. This was a great display from the Bandon girls who fully deserved their 3 points and 3rd place in what was a very tough and competitive League.
BANDON 3 RICHMOND 1
23/02/08 On Saturday afternoon last Bandon travelled to Richmond. Bandon started this
match in 4th place in the league with Richmond 3 points behind in 5th. In bad
conditions Bandon started brightly with a chance falling to Katie O'Driscoll
whose shot went narrowly wide. With Bandon's midfield of Eileen Lordan, Rachel
O'Neill and Mel Fitzgerald dominating the game it wasn't long before Bandon took
the lead with a shot from just inside the box from Eileen Lordan. Richmond
settled into their stride but found it hard to get past the Bandon defenceof
Chloe Lynch, Niamh Hill, Sarah Crowley and Shauna Rafferty. Against the run of
play Richmond equalised just before the break. With conditions worsening
Richmond started the 2nd half better and were unlucky not to take the lead but
for some fine saves from Aine O'Donovan. With a back pass from a Richmond
defender Bandon got an indirect freekick and Eileen Lordan made no mistake in
tucking away her 2nd. Richmond applied the pressure as they came forward
searching for the equaliser, but the Bandon defence stood firm. With 5 mins left
on the clock Lisa Crowley took the ball just inside the Richmond half and made a
dazzling run, leaving the Richmond defence in her wake and giving the keeper no
chance to secure all 3 points for Bandon. On the day best for Bandon were Sarah
Crowley, Niamh Hill, Shauna Rafferty and Chloe Lynch.
