BANDON  2  PARK UTD.  4

 24/02/08

Bandon took on Park Utd. in the Town Park on Sundat last. Bandon started well with Shauna O'Donovan and Caroline Sugrue appling some good pressure. Park applied some pressure themselves but were kept at bay y some excellent saves by Laura O'Donovan. Park broke through 20 mins in and went 1 up. Thats how it stayed until half time. In the 2nd half Bandons defence were under pressure with Shauna Lynch, Lucy Fitzgerald, Swada Hoxta and Jenny-Lee Wilmot playing very well, however Park found their 2nd and 5 mins later put away their 3rd. Bandon made a few changes and got 1 back. Rachel Quinn and Niamh Burns got through a huge amount of work in midfield. Beca Barrett went down the right wing and crossed in a good ball and Chloe O'Leary finished well to make it 3 - 2. and Park were under pressure. However Park broke once again and finished off the game. Bandons best on the day was without doubt their captain, Niamh Burns.

BANDON  2  BUTTEVANT  6

SUN 17/02

Bandon made the long journey to Buttevant on Sunday morning to take on the 2nd placed team in the league. After a nervous start Bandon started to settle after 10 minutes and started to pass the ball around. They got a free kick about 25 yards out and Becca Barrett stood up to take it. The Buttevant defence, expecting the ball to be floated into the box, held the line outside the penalty area, but Becca had other ideas and put the ball straight into the net to put the visitors in front. Buttevant came back at Bandon and were back on level terms within 5 minutes. Bandon were awarded a penalty 10 minutes before the break and once again it was Becca who slotted the ball into the back of the net. Buttevant tried hard to get back on level terms before half time but with Laura O'Donovan in top form in the Bandon goal in remained 2-1 at the break. It was like a different Buttevant team that took the field for the 2nd half as they took the game to Bandon. They were back on level terms shortly after the restart when a deflection off one of the Bandon backs sent the goalie the wrong way. Within 5 minutes Bandon went behind for the 1st time when the home side got a penalty and duly scored . After that Buttevant stepped up a gear and despite the best efforts of the Bandon defence they ran out convincing 6-2 winners. Its not often it can be said about a goalkeeper who see's 6 go past them, but best for Bandon on the day were Laura O'Donovan, who pulled of a number of top class saves, and Becca Barrett.TEAM: Laura O'Donovan, Jenny-Lee Wilmot, Shauna Lynch, Rachael Quinn, Swada Hoxta, Chloe O'Leary, Shauna O'Donovan, Kellie Fitzgerald, Becca Barrett, Niamh Burns, Caroline Sugrue. BANDON  0  BALLINCOLLIG  6

SUN 27TH JAN

Bandon travelled to take on Premier side Ballincollig on Sunday morning last. With only the bare 11 travelling a tough game was always on the cards if Bandon were to progress in this Cup competition. Ballincollig had a 3-0 lead by half time. Bandon came out fighting for the 2nd half and had a couple of chances from Caroline Sugrue and Becca Barrett early in the half. With Bandon tiring from the heavy underfoot conditions, and no subs to bring on , Ballincollig used their bench to bring on some fresh legs, and once again stepped up a gear. Ballincollig had a 6-0 lead when stand-in manager Mossie O'Donovan made a tactical change, switching midfielder Kellie Fitzgerald with goalkeeper Laura O'Donovan. This bold move nearly paid off when Laura came close with the final touch of the game, only to be caught by the Ballincollig off-side trap. Well done to all the girls for the fighting spirit they showed throughout the game. Its now back to the league campaign where the girls are only 3 points off top spot.Team: Laura O'Donovan, Jenny-Lee Wilmot, Shauna Lynch, Swada Hoxta  Chloe O'Leary, Kellie Fitzgerald, Becca Barrett, Niamh Burns, Aishling McCarthy, Caroline Sugrue, Shauna O'Donovan

BANDON  2  PARK UTD.  3

Sun 21st Oct.

Bandon travelled to Mitchelstown to take on Park Utd. The much younger bandon team got off to a bad start when Park opened the scoring with a free header from a corner. Park's 2nd goal came from another corner, when the ball came loose and broke to a Park striker who made no mistake and shot into the Bandon net. Bandon pressed hard but were unlucky when Park found the net once again. At half-time the score was 3-0. In the 2ndhalf Bandon opened brightly and immediately put the home side under pressure. With 15 mins to go Bandon striker Caroline Sugrue put the ball in the back of the net. This was followed shortly by a strike by Chloe O'Leary who put her team at 3-2 with 5 mins to go. Bandon pressed hard for the remainder of the match and were unlucky not to find that all important equaliser. Becca Barrett and Swada Hoxta played well for Bandon while Shauna Lynch was Player of the match. BANDON  1  YOUGHAL  5

Sun 23rd Sept

After making a winning start to the League campaign the previous week hopes were high that another good result could be achieved by this young team when Bandon travelled to Youghal for their Div. 1 encounter. However on the day things didn't go according to plan. A strong Youghal team put the Bandon defence under pressure right from the whistle, with the breakthrough coming after 25 minutes. The score at half-time was 3-0 to the home side. Bandon started the 2nd half strongly before Caroline Sugrue scored to make it 3-1. Bandon then had 2 shots hit the woodwork before Youghal scored their 4th and 5th goals to make it 5-1 at full-time. While disappointed with the result it didn't reflect the high standard shown by the girls who have only just moved up from last years U-14 competition.
