APR. 25TH
Bandon started the game on a slippery pitch with 10 minutes of
pressure, which finally resulted with man of the match Josh Desmond
picking up a loose ball outside the Ringmahon box and drilling it into
the top of the net. Bandon were well on top at this stage, but Ringmahon
equalised against the run of play with the ball volleyed in from a
narrow angle. Bandon regained the lead almost immediately, a Ringmahon
defender under pressure tried to clear across his own box, only for Josh
Desmond to head it neatly in for 2-1. More Bandon pressure resulted in
Liam Swann scoring a poachers goal from the edge of the six yard box.
Ringmahon now began showing their mettle and the last 20 minutes of the
first half belonged to them, but they could not convert their pressure
into goals. Bandon defended grimly but could not hold on to the ball
long enough to relieve the pressure.
Bandon started the second half with some very neat passing
football but Ringmahon were far from beaten. Good play by Bandon's
midfield and defence confined the opposition to mostly long range
efforts, which were competently dealt with by Donnacha O'Driscoll in
goal. Twenty minutes into the half a fine attack from Bandon ended with
Mark O'Driscoll curling a beautiful goal around the Ringmahon defence
and just inside the post. There was plenty fight left in Ringmahon and
they kept coming at us, but Bandon's defence had settled in very well in
the second half and were not troubled. The Ringmahon defence were tiring
as the half went on, and finally the centre back conceded a penalty for
a foul on James McSweeney. Dean Ellis converted the penalty. James
McSweeney finished the scoring by bundling in a cross in the dying
moments.

A very hard battle with both sides very commited.

Bandon U16 finally played their 3rd league match of the season last
Saturday, away to Ringmahon.
Bandon played the first half on a sticky pitch into a freezing wind, and
were lucky to be only 2 down at the interval. Having said that we held
out for most of the first half, defending well but relying heavily on a
great display by Gary Farrell in goal. Ringmahon's first goal came when
their No. 10 managed to beat several tackles along the endline before
passing for a tap-in goal. Their second cam on the stroke of half time,
a rocket fro outside the box that Gary had no chance to reach.
We started the second half much brighter, with Conor Gossage and James
McSweeney combining well down the right to create some chances, one of
which was converted by Liam Swann. We stayed on top for the rest of the
half, although our pressing forward left us exposed in defence more than
once, in each case Gary managed to keep Ringmahon out. Finally, in the
5th minute of extra time we got the goal we had earned, with Aidan Walsh
topping off a fine performance with the final touch on a free from James
McSweeney.

Bandon got the season off to the perfect start with a 3-0 win
against a strong visiting side. We were into our stride very quickly ,
with James Mc Sweeney and Chris Harrington dominating midfield, and our
defence settling in well. The springfield defence was under pressure for
most of the half, but held out well until the stroke of half-time, when
another good Bandon move put Eoin McSweeney down the left wing; a good
turn inside allowed him lay it back to Luke O'Riordan, who hit a cracker
from 25 yards, leaving the keeper no chance.
Springfield started the second half well but were caught going
forward after 55 minutes, when Chris Harrington won a tackle out on the
left and set James McSweeney off through the centre. James rode two
tackles before setting Mark O'Driscoll through for a sweetly taken goal.
Springfield fought back well, creating some chances which were well
dealt with by Gary Farrell in the Bandon goal. The icing on the cake
came in the last minute when Mark O'Driscoll executed a skilful control
on the turn before blasting the ball into the top of the net.
